How far dose Romeo and Juliet reflects the highs and lows of being young? Young "in an early stage of progress or development; not far advanced" being a teenager people automatically think cheeky, rude and don't have any respect for other's. That is the reputation us teenagers have, it ant all good being young you don't get the respect you deserve. Bearing in mind that 'Romeo and Juliet� is one of the most famous love stories ever written, I will examine Shakespeare's presentation of "Relationships between Romeo and Juliet and the others, conflict/confrontation, impetuosity, group identity and the adults" referring closely to the actions used by the characters.
The play 'Romeo and Juliet presents true love in the form of 'star-crossed lovers�, but there relationship is put to a test as they both find out there from the families that are in a long term feud with each other. "Two households..." Each character from this play has a different view on "love and life" adding a good clear view on how Romeo and Juliet's love is pure and true, therefore this is why the play "Romeo and Juliet" is about love and devotion. On the other hand Sampson and Gregory's point of view over love is more sexist and crude compared to Romeo and Juliet's. Sampson and Gregory don't see love being connected to a relationship or emotions, they brag their own 'qualities� and see woman as objects not people.
Further more the parents of Romeo and Juliet is a far more import issue of reflecting the highs and lows of being young as your parents have a big impact on your life. The parents of Romeo and Juliet are not like the parents of today, they don't let there children (Romeo and Juliet) have any freedom or independence of their decisions in life. Juliet is in fact a lot closer to the nurse than to her own mother so that will put a big strain on there mother and daughter relationship. Capulet loves Juliet in the way that most parents love their children, but he goes one step further and tells her what to do instead of letting her make her own decisions.
"Thursday next, To go with Paris to Saint Peter's church, or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither." After Capulet and Juliet have there fight she turns to her mother for help asking if she could make the wedding in a week, but her mother turns her back on Juliet. "Talk not to me..." So Juliet turns to the nurse for help, the nurse is in fact equivalent to Juliet's mother. Juliet trusts the nurse, as she is the only person that Juliet tells about her relationship with Romeo.
As we don't know a lot about Romeo's relationship between his parents as they don't get mentioned a lot in the play so its hard to get a clear understanding view. Possibly one of the main points in this play is the impetuosity of youth; this is shown very clearly by the characters Romeo and Juliet. "Impetuosity: liable to act without consideration; rash; impulsive " at beginning of the play Romeo had a obsession "crush" on a character called Rosaline but this was only unrequited love, Romeo discovers that Rosaline has been invited to Capulets party, here at this party Romeo finds a much prettier girl then Rosaline.
Romeo falls in love instantly with this woman (Juliet). "What lady that which doth enrich the hand of yonder knight?" At this point Romeo has forgotten all about Rosaline. In youth it is hard to find true love in the form of what Romeo and Juliet had, Romeo and Juliet are impatient and never want to wait. One point that affects the story line of "Romeo and Juliet" is the importance of GROUP IDENITY, at the begging of the play the audience is shown an ongoing feud between the two household of the Montague's and the Capulets, there are often violent outbreaks between the two groups. Small issues are blown out of proportion resulting in extreme fatal situations.
